Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Thoughts
This game is a mess. You can tell developers The Chinese Room had their hearts in the right place — there's some beautiful scenery and excellent voice acting here. Outside of that there's little to recommend. A barely interactive, glacially paced game that feels more like a tech demo than a finished product. The story builds to a crescendo of what amounts to little more than a rimshot. Vastly disappointing in nearly every way, especially considering from past experience I'd consider myself part of their target audience.
Plus/Minus
+ The landscapes and some of the effects are very pretty
+ There's some wonderful pieces of music in here
+ Voice acting is top notch
+ Some of the character writing is enjoyable
- The story is tripe and has no payoff
- Even with a patch adding a sprint button it's slow as treacle
- Clearly aspires to be more than it is
- This is lazy criticism but I can't think of another way to put it - this is barely a game
Overall
If you're putting all your eggs in one basket (the story, in this case) you'd want to hope those eggs hold up. They don't here. This would barely warrant passing interest as a free short story, let alone a $20-30 game.
4/10
